A microsite is a website with a specific purpose and focus. It can be a single web page or a group of web pages.
It is a scaled-down version of a website that is set up with features and functions that fulfil that purpose and focus, and usually used for specific campaigns, promotions, sharing stories, used as a landing page and is a powerful branding tool. It has its own domain name, which can be independent or complement your main website that bears your brand.
You can use a microsite to:
- Target specific users - based on demographic segmentation, generation cohorts, etc.
- Provide certain functions - eg. product launch, event registration, etc.
- Delivers a specific message - announcements, event updates, etc.
- Brand focus - present different brands, create different positioning, etc.
